Gokarna to Mumbai by Taxi

 Gokarna to Mumbai by Taxi

Gokarna to Mumbai airport by taxi took 13 hours and cost us 17,000 rupees.

Taxi from Kudle beach, Gokarna, Karnataka to Mumbai airport

Realizing we were a day ahead of what we thought, we decided to get a taxi to Mumbai airport.

Our option was a coach leaving 14 hours before the taxi would, arriving so early we would of had to stay in a Mumbai hotel for one night. Then still having to get a further taxi from hotel to airport.

So a taxi it was!

The coach would have cost us 1,ooo rupees and would have took roughly 12 hours.

The train was a complicated journey with changeovers and uncertainties, fine if you are travelling but not if you are catching a plane.

So again, a taxi from Gokarna to Mumbai airport it was to be!

Gokarna to Mumbai Airport by Taxi 2015

Our hotel manager, who we had struck up a good relationship with, organised the taxi. His friend Lowcase picked us up on time and took a friend with him so that they could share the long drive together.

We left at 11.00 and arrived at 01.00 the next day.

The drivers drove around Goa entirely to avoid tax charges. Even though they must have hit at least 8 tolls along the way and one police stop, denting their profit for the service.

The drivers were happy to stop off whenever we were hungry and were friendly all the way. I enjoyed the ride. There was some catching scenery and after the bus and train journeys we had taken earlier in the trip it felt like luxury.

I was happy we made this choice and we got to the airport on time.

Palolem to Gokarna by train took 3 hours and cost 30 rupees.

The rickshaw from Palolem Beach to Canacona station took 15 minutes and cost 100 rupees.

Palolem Beach Resort had a stunning beach, plenty to do with banana boats, speed boats, jet skis, shopping and some fantastic restaurants. However its not as hippy as it was. Its more touristy now and the hippies have moved south. I nearly got into a couple of fights with people touching up my girlfriend which is definitely not what I went there for. But overall it is still a great place.

The train from Palolem to Gokarna was due to leave at 13.00 but on this day it was one hour late. It set off at 14.00 and arrived at Gokarna Road at 17.00.

The train from Palolem to Gokarna Road was nice and spacious and was not busy. You could easily have a couple of seats to yourself to chill or lay down and sleep. The scenery was beautiful.

The rickshaw from Gokarna Road station to Kudle Beach took 20 minutes and cost 200 rupees.

Gokarna is the place to be. Stunning beaches, chilled atmosphere, romantic if your with your girlfriend, a great hang out if your with your mates. A real hippy feel to it, bonfires and drums on the beach, volleyball and people chilling out playing their guitars.

You can stay on Kudle Beach, Om Beach or Half Moon Beach. Kudle Beach was my favorite but they were all cool. Further down is Paradise Beach which is an actual hippy commune where westerners are living in tents, hammocks and fishing in the sea for food.

Hotel in Anjuna Goa

Hotel in Anjuna Goa

Hotel in Anjuna Goa. The La Joia Hotel in Anjuna is the best value for money room I have experienced in the whole of India.

Hotel in Anjuna
Hotel in Anjuna

The style of this hotel is delightful. The whole hotel is a piece of artwork for you to feast your eyes on. Every staircase, doorway and wall has been given thought with its shabby chic/ Moroccan look.

Even the corridor continued this shabby chic/ Moroccan design. The hotel is quality throughout.

The used wood, painted wooden floor boards, book shelves and mosaic tiling are a pleasure sit in and relax.

The La Joia Hotel is situated just behind the Anjuna beach front. All the action is still on your doorstep but it is just far enough off the track to chill peacefully.

The backlit bookshelves were a nice touch with low light to help prevent the attack of mosquitoes.

The room was self contained with shower, toilet and sink. They were clean and stylish.

The staff were friendly and clearly believed in providing quality.

Downstairs they have a kitchen serving food and drinks. They also have a lounge or social area where they sometimes have entertainment.

Our room was 1,500 rupees for a night. We turned up on the day and got a room but you can also book in advance with email.

The Hotel can be found on facebook under Elephant Art Cafe.

The train was due to leave at 13.00 and it was on time. The train took 3 hours and cost 30 rupees each.

The train from Anjuna to Gokarna was clean and spacious. The train was not busy so there was plenty of room to lay about and enjoy the Indian scenery.

Anjuna to Gokarna

Once at Gokarna Road Station we took a rickshaw down to Kudle Beach for 250 rupees. This journey took about 20 minutes.

We did enquire about a taxi the whole way there from Anjuna to Gokarna but the driver said due to taxes from one district to another (Goa to Karnataka) it would be expensive. He refused to even quote a price.

Kudle Beach, Gokarna is my favourite place in India so far. It has a real hippy tribal atmosphere. On the beach there may be a randon tribal drumming gathering. People having bonfires, playing thier guitar and passing joints. Tourism doesnt have a grip here yet so the beach is clean and the sea is clear. But there is still enough service to get a cold beer and WiFi.

Once at Madgaon Station we took a rickshaw to the bus station costing us 120 rupees and taking 10 minutes.

The bus/coach from Margao to Anjuna Beach is 20 rupees. However when we arrived at the bus station we were told there were no more buses to Anjuna Beach on that day. We settled for a taxi. I would imagine on the bus it would have taken about 3 hours.

Gokarna to Anjuna Beach

The taxi from Madgaon station, Margao to Anjuna Beach took 1 hour 30 minutes and cost 1,200 rupees. We were quoted 1,700 rupees from the first driver so I said 1,200 rupees, walked off and he didn’t follow. The second driver quoted 1,250. I bartered 1,200 rupees and offered to shake on it, he accepted the offer but refused to shake my hand saying the 50 rupees was his profit. I didn’t believe this, hopefully it wasn’t true, and by the end of the journey he was chatty and friendly.
